StewMac Plunge Router Base

About This Item

Our sturdy base turns your Dremel into a compact plunge router—perfect for inlays, routing saddle slots, cleaning fret slots and more. The advanced design gives an unobstructed view of the cutting action.

It's very simple to set the precision depth adjustment, then plunge and raise the bit exactly that amount. Each turn of the knurled micro depth stop gives approximately 1/32" of adjustment, to a maximum depth of one inch.

    Designed for stringed instrument work
  • Excellent control
  • Clear visibility
  • Maneuverable for accurate freehand work
  • Works with our Saddle Slotting Jig

Sturdy, compact, and adjustable
You can plunge-rout an inlay cavity that's precisely compensated for the thickness of the pearl and glue, for minimum sanding later.

The ball grips give you excellent control for freehand routing and easy operation of the plunge feature. The built in LED light bar gives you a fully lighted view of your work. There's even a built-in nozzle for attaching a Mini Air Pump to continuously blow away the dust—you'll rout inlay cavities more precisely, for a better fit requiring less filler.

Installation is easy
Simply unscrew the threaded plastic collar on the nose of the Dremel, and screw on the base.

Plunge Router Base fits these rotary tools with a 3/4-12 threaded plastic collar:
  • Dremel 100, Dremel 4000, 400XPR, Professional, MultiPro and most corded models made since 1986
  • Black & Decker Wizard and RTX
  • Our Foredom custom handpiece

Big improvement

By

Verified Buyer

I have the earlier Stewmac router, was frustrated with the knurled nuts coming loose, tricky to adjust. This one is a big improvement. Much easier to microadjust the depth. The stewmac dust blower actually works well now because the tube is bigger than standard aquarium pump tubing maybe. The light provides plenty of light but is in the way of viewing the work most of the time. They should have put the batteries and lamp in back and illuminate that way. The round knobs are much easier to control. Never once loosened the setting. All in all seems they should no longer offer the old one. Get this instead.

Awesome Tool

This router base is a superb addition to my Luthier shop. Coupled with an assortment of router bits, it makes cutting out inlays and patching work so easy and accurate. Far better built than other basses available through Amazon or EBay. Over the years, every StewMac Tool or accessory has been excellent investments.

Side dots

By

Verified Buyer

I got this specifically for little free hand jobs like side dots on the fretboard. Since there is not flat surface for the base to rest on to square up, I expected it to be tougher than it was, but the plunge router base is very easy to hold and keep stable while free handing the plunge. Easy to line up, no wander, able to keep square - the result is uniformly deep and properly located holes with no "oval" due to wander. Good light for older eyes.

Worth the price if you can afford yet another tool.

Excellent addition to a Dremel tool.

Bought this tool to update my Dremel . First thing I used it for was to recess a space so a closet bolt head would be flush with the bottom of a sled/jig I was making. It worked perfectly!! It is a very well made, accurate tool.

Thought about & thought about it....should I get the cheap base from a box store or pay considerably more for the stewmac. I’m chose the stew Mac and I’m not looking back! It’s worth th money. Sturdy &.Easy to make depth adjustments. Love the light. Just wish I would have ordered the mini pump at the same time. Can’t say enough good things about this base. It’s a solid tool not a plastic piece of junk. You get what you pay for. If you are undecided- Forget any doubts you may have and get this

My New Favorite Tool

This great shop addition is well engineered and I'm going to get a lot of good use out of it. Mine is a hobby shop, not production oriented at all. This tool allows me to use my Dremel with much more precision than anything else I've tried so far. The auxiliary light is a great touch. Even in a well lighted shop, when you're cutting a rosette channel, improved vision is a wonderful thing.

Excellent

I haven't used this on my project just yet but I can already tell it's great! I have used these bases in school but this is my first router base and Im very happy that this newer version came out just before I needed it. The plunge is very smooth and easy to control while the Dremel is running. The LED feature is also VERY handy in making pencil lines much more visible. I also really like the depth stop on this compared to the adjusting dials on the older models. The LED light also has 3 levels of brightness. Batteries may not be included but that doesn't matter when it's rechargeable! I don't think I'll be needing the strobe feature on the light and it's 3 levels of strobe speed because I don't want a seizure with the Dremel running ;) Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase. I feel like this is worth the money and would recommend it to anybody!

Plunge router base

I have the stewMac precision base and have used it for years on rosettes and bridge saddle slots. I was interested in the new plunge base. I have seen LMi's plunge base and I was impressed but found the price difficult to justify. When StewMac introduced their plunge router base with a price I could handle I decided to take the plunge and give it a. I'm please with the results. Its simple design and bright work light make it a very useful replacement for the precision base. I would have given it 5 stars but the plunge feature is not as smooth as I would prefer (I am sure I'll get used to it). I recently used it on a rosette on a 3A addy spruce top with good results. The plunge feature gave me better control of the depth of the cut and the ability to move without starting and stopping the dremel.
