About This Item

Welcome to guitar building!
If you're new to guitar building this kit's a great way to start: this is the classic electric guitar design that's fun to build, and you'll learn a lot.

Limited Stock: We don't often carry electric guitar kits, and the supply is limited. Grab them while you can! The mahogany body and smooth neck are higher quality than other kits at this price. The parts fit perfectly, and with our instructions this is an easy build that makes a great guitar — and a great gift!

We've included a great set of illustrated instructions that'll take you step-by-step through the whole process from: creating a custom peghead, installing and aligning the neck, wiring the pickups, applying a finish, installing hardware and even doing a final setup on your custom guitar.

And, if that weren't enough, we're also including an extra set of Dunlop Guitar strings to make your guitar sound amazing.

Whether it's your first or your 50th, this is an affordable way to build a great guitar.

    Kit includes:
  • An upgraded mahogany body pre-routed and drilled for the proper placement of the neck, pickups, control cavity and bridge
  • A pre-fretted maple neck with blank peghead and pre-installed 2-way truss rod
  • Pre-installed fingerboard inlays
  • Slotted nut
  • Sealed tuners
  • Neck and bridge pickups
  • A wired switch plate for easy installation
  • Output jack

Basic kit, great for the first-time builder.

It comes as a routed body blank and a fretted neck, along with the essential hardware. Other than cutting out the head stock shape, it's really a good lesson in preparing, finishing and assembling a Tele style electric. A great place to start if your interested in building your own!

Nice wood and frets

This kit was a steal, so I bought it. I knew from the start that I would modify things, but I wanted to see what I had before I finalized my plans.

The Good – The wood is nice and well shaped and sanded. The frets are particularly well done for a kit in this price range, way better than average.

The Not So Good – I'm no impressed with the consistency / accuracy of holes drilled for the tuners nor the neck plate. I feel like most of the components are sub-par, but that was okay for me as I wasn't really planning on using most of them. But be aware that if you want to use other parts, you will need to modify the body. I had to open up the routes for the bridge pickup and the controls, and I had to drill string-thru holes for a traditional Tele bridge. Not a particularly hard job, but another step that is required.

Mine is still in-progress, but it will be an vintage semi-relic'd Esquire when completed. I'll post photos when done.

Everything looks great.

I really haven't even assembled this one yet, but I have done the S styles. I have looked through the box of parts and the instruction. They look fine. No matter, I have ordered from StewMac many times before. I am not worried in the least. If there is a problem in assembly or parts they WILL support me as they have before. Another great thing about the kit: For this price, you are not going to get a $1000 guitar. But if you build it well, it will certainly be worth your time and more than you paid for it. The thing I like best: The main items, (neck and body) are of excellent quality and I can upgrade any other items on the guitar I want. Weeks or years later. Everything is available at StewMac. So, I can basically build this into a $1000+ guitar at my desired speed and financing. Building it gave me the skills to be able to do this.

An above average kit, but not good enough for my inflated sense of purpose

I bought this kit expecting to upgrade the tuners, nut and electronics. With that in mind I was hoping for a great combination of maple neck and mahogany body. However, there were a plethora of small issues that, when added together, indicated I would be better off returning the kit and buying the pieces separately to make the guitar I wanted to build.

To be clear, the primary issues were with the differences in some of the measurements which would require routing to fit standard Fender replacement parts, like the vintage Tele bridge pickup I was buying from StewMac. And I felt that the neck was a cut below a Mighty Mite. Both of these make issues make sense, given that it is a "T-Style" kit, rather than an authorized kit or more expensive parts sold separately, but it made me question whether the final build would work out as well as I would like.

I love doing business with StewMac, and the kit looks like it's perfect for someone just starting out. I bought a cheap kit elsewhere awhile back and there is no doubt that the StewMac kit is way better. I'm happy to recommend it.

The tech I worked understood what I was asking and did an impeccable job of advising me. And because I elected to get a StewMac subscription with my order, my return is free. So I'm giving this 5 stars and returning the kit. Go figure.

This is a well put together kit. Neck pocket is tight and looks strait. Have not started assembly yet and I have a few changes I want to make.
